Recently I caught up with Louis Pereira one of the founding members of Hacker Cabin to learn how he got his first sales and why he thinks the best thing a solo founder can do is keep building things and to launch quickly.

Tell us about your project

I built AudioPen – a tool that converts voice notes into text written in a style of your choice. It’s the easiest way to go from fuzzy thought to clear text.

How long did it take you from launching to getting your first sale?

Under an hour!

What did you do to get your first sale?

I made the first sale during Half Day Build, a hackathon I organize in which people go from idea to revenue in under 12 hours.

What have been your most successful advertising channels?

I’ve just been building things in public (on Twitter) for a while. I got my first sales from there, and have continued to iterate there as well.

What have been your least successful channels?

Paid marketing. So far, no luck. Maybe I just haven’t cracked the code though.

Advice for other solo founders who want to get started or are just starting out?

Just keep building stuff, quickly. It’s easier to throw a hundred darts and have one hit the bullseye than to take months to throw a single dart at the target after careful calculations.
